Inspirational Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is out for the remainder of the season due to a groin injury. The English international and Liverpool number 8 had been suffering the injury from last month but suffered a further setback during a light training session midweek.

Kenny Dalglish confirmed that the skipper will be out for the remainder of Liverpool's campaign this year, putting their chances of qualifying for Europe in major doubt. Along with this Daniel Agger has also been ruled out for the reaminder of the season as well as Glen Johnson, both have not been able to recover from their respective injuries.

Liverpool face Manchester City this week and a loss would most likely see the Reds not feature in Europe at all. However with the signings of Carroll and Suarez they will look to challenge the top four in the 2011/2012 season.
