Messi voted best player of 2010 - Ballon D'or

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Lionel Messi has been voted footballer of the year yet again, making it two years in which he has consecutively won the award.
After a disappointing World Cup it was thought that Messi would not prove to be as prolific in Europe as he was in previous years. Although Messi sparked Barcelona once again and they once again sit on the top of the La Liga, with Real Madrid still trailing behind.

His teamates and fellow nominees Xavi and Iniesta were also worthy winners after their heroics in the World Cup, winning it with Spain. They have also been insturmental in many of Barcelona's victories. With Xavi at one stage putting together over 100 complete passes, showing that he indeed still dominates the centre of midfield.

Both Xavi and Iniesta were joyed at the news that their teamate was awared best player in football. Messi lies in second on the top scorers list in the La Liga behind rival Cristiano Ronaldo who is five goals ahead.

Barcelona still reign supreme in Spain and the fact that three of their players were nominated for player of the year solidifies this statement.

Friday, December 10, 2010

The final three candidates for the prestigous Ballon D'or have been announced and it seems that Barcelona have dominated the podium with Xavi, Messi and Iniesta all finding their way into the top three. But this is admist the great performances put in by likes such as Forlan, Robben and Sneijder.

The winners will be announced on January 10. Although it seems that those still in contention to win the award are not content with their posititon. Barcelona and Spanish midfielder Xavi admitted that Sneijder deserved to be on the podium after leading Inter to a treble of Cup trophies.

The title of best coach is also up for grabs, and it looks as if Mourinho already has the title wrapped up, but stiff competition still lies within Vincente del Bosque after his heroics with Spain at the 2010 Fifa World Cup. All will be known on January 10.
